Ripple Map: data collection & contact
Ripple Map is a research project by Ben Sunter that measures how events spill over into public attention and everyday activity. This page is the contact named in its crawler's User-Agent.
Who is making requests
Requests identify themselves as ripples-research/0.2 (+https://bensunter.com/ripples/methods/). They come from scheduled jobs on Supabase and GitHub Actions.
What it collects
- Only public, aggregate counts: daily pageviews, public statistics series, and item counts from documented APIs.
- No personal data, no account data, no content behind a login.
How it behaves
- Documented APIs are used where they exist, and robots.txt is respected everywhere else.
- Requests are one at a time and well under each provider's published limits. For Wikimedia that is at most one request per second.
- On any HTTP 429 or 503 it stops, and it does not retry until the next scheduled run.
- It never uses proxies, rotating IPs, a disguised User-Agent, or ways around CAPTCHAs or bot checks.
